There it is: Montreal. Bonjour, Quebec! I could smell European sophistication right away. The sharply dressed and the tastefully casual mingled in the streets, as their intermingling banter both in French and faintly British English was music to my ears… Then, more treats, as I sampled a delectable flight of the finest local beers and a dish of mussels that were to die for… French food… Art, Street Music…
What a spectacular day to be strolling la Rue de Notre Dame! After a scrumptious brunch of seafood crepes and fluffy quiche a la :Provencal, it was on to the Basilica…And then one of the crown jewels in Quebec’s rich religious heritage Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica. No words to describe the majestic Gothic-inspired columns, curves, and color palette in the exquisite stained-glass depictions of historical vignettes from Notre Dame’s early days…
Designed and built by James O’Donnell, of Irish Protestant extraction: He wished to break tradition by embracing elements of Gothic architecture in this modern wok of art. It truly goes to show that art and expression cannot be confined to any one religion, and it should not be…. What would have made the pilgrimage even more spectacular is catching a glimpse of a wedding that was to take place within an hour of our tour. Montreal is the City of Festivals, It is always something interesting to look forward to.
